The Japanese and Hessian economies are closely linked in many respects. During
the Consul General's visit to Wiesbaden, the attractiveness of both locations and opportunities for cooperation were discussed.

The Japanese Consul General Takeshi Ito visited Hessen Trade & Invest GmbH in Wiesbaden. The focus of the meeting at the economic development organization of the state of Hessen was the further development of economic cooperation between Japan and Hessen. Dr. Rainer Waldschmidt, CEO of HTAI, and Dr. David Eckensberger, Head of Department for International Affairs, discussed the attractiveness of Hessen as a location for expanding companies from Japan. Japan and Hessen both intend to continue their good cooperation in the future and to support each other.

Japan is one of the most highly developed countries in the world in many respects - for instance in terms of transport infrastructure, public administration and healthcare. Despite the great geographical distance, the Japanese and Hessian economies are closely linked in many respects. Among other things, this is due to the large number and diversity of Japanese companies represented in Hessen, as well as to the economic development of both countries.

In 2023, Hessen sold goods worth a total of EUR 1.2 billion in Japan, which equates to
1.4 percent of Hessen's exports worldwide. The German economy as a whole exported EUR 20.2 billion worth of goods to Japan. In the same period, products worth EUR 4.2 billion made their way in the opposite direction, from Japan to Hessen, which corresponds to a share of 3.4% of Hessen's total imports.
