UPS Healthcare opens its first dedicated logistics facility in Giessen
The leading healthcare logistics company will use the site’s strategic location at the VGP Park Giessen to better serve the fast-growing European healthcare markets that increasingly require specialist storage and handling services.
UPS Healthcare has opened its first dedicated healthcare logistics facility in Germany at the VGP Park “Am Alten Flughafen” in Giessen, a city in central Hessen. The sustainability-minded business park offers the company a strategic, state-of-the-art location to serve some of the fastest-growing healthcare markets in the world. Today’s pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device producers need high-quality, end-to-end logistics solutions for their time-critical and temperature-sensitive products.
The facility, which is both GMP- and GDP-compliant, has a floor area of almost 25,000 square meters and can house over 30,000 pallet positions. It is equipped to store a range of healthcare products at various temperatures (2-8°C, 15-25°C, and down to -20°C).
The proximity of Giessen to the UPS European air hub at the Cologne Bonn Airport and the UPS Healthcare hub in Roermond (Netherlands) allows the company to offer customers shorter domestic and global transit times, including next-day delivery to 80% of Europe.
The new facility is part of UPS Healthcare’s ongoing investment strategy in Germany. The company will also make use of the Giessen site´s ideal location in central Germany to supply hospitals and pharmacies nationwide.
VGP is a pan-European developer, manager, and owner of high-quality logistics and semi-industrial real estate. The company operates three business parks in the Giessen area. The 32-hectare VGP Park Giessen “Am Alten Flughafen” offers rental space for commercial, production, and logistics companies, including small units from 1,000 square meters and customized solutions for large businesses.
